The future of Mexico is in Sonora with The Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan

Mexico’s future is being forged in Sonora with the implementation of the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan, considered a key element to strengthen the relationship with the United States. This approach was highlighted by Governor Alfonso Durazo and Ambassador Ken Salazar during the inauguration of the new U.S. Consulate General in Hermosillo, where they agreed on the importance of this project for the commercial and tourism development of the region.

Governor Durazo emphasized how the Sonora plan takes advantage of the state’s natural resources to boost semiconductor production and advance electromobility. This effort has attracted the attention and support of prominent figures in the United States, such as John Kerry former U.S. special envoy for climate, and Ambassador Salazar, who has already visited the solar plant in Puerto Peñasco to observe the progress up close.

“This facilities will provide an extraordinary service due to the relationship between our countries and, particularly, between Sonora and Arizona, which connects us, not separates us, we share a border of almost 600 kilometers with a very intense economic relationship, a very intense cultural relationship, an extraordinary social relationship and I could say a family relationship because a good part of the Mexican community has a relatives on the other side” Durazo said.

For his part,  Ambassador Salazar expressed that the future of Mexico is in Sonora and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthen the relationship between the two countries. He emphasized that the new consulate symbolizes this commitment and will offer a more efficient service to families who need to carry out immigration procedures.

“We have worked to transform the relationship between the United States and Mexico, a transformation that must continue forever because we are two nations, but one family; our commitment is to keep working closely with Governor Durazo, we are excited to work with the elected President Sheinbaum, as we have done with President Lopez Obrador the past few years” he said.

$230 Million dollar investment

The new consulate, which represents an investment of 230 million and occupies an area of 32,000 square meters, incorporates elements of environmental sustainability, such as solar panels and rainwater reuse systems. This infrastructure not only enhances diplomatic capacity, but also underscores the long-term commitment between the United States and Mexico in social and economic development.

The Sonora Plan is positioned as a key for binational cooperation, with a focus on innovation and sustainability, benefiting both nations and building a more prosperous future.
