With the Sonora Plan, Governor Durazo attracts interest from Danish shipping company to invest in the Port of Guaymas

In a strategic meeting to boost Sonora’s logistics and economic development, Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño held a high-level meeting with executives from Maersk, the world’s second-largest shipping company, and its subsidiary APM Terminals. During the virtual meeting, which also included Francisco Acuña Méndez, President of the Sonora Council for Sustainable Development (CODESO), the Danish company expressed its interest in investing in the development and modernization of the Port of Guaymas.

Governor Durazo Montaño announced that, within the framework of the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan, efforts are underway to develop a container zone at the port terminal, which will substantially increase cargo volume. In response, the executives from the Danish shipping company, after learning about the competitive advantages of the Port of Guaymas, reaffirmed their interest in investing in Sonora.

“From the beginning of my administration, I have defined it as an investment-friendly government. This means that we support investors from start to finish to ensure the success of their projects in the state of Sonora, and we will do so with particular enthusiasm and commitment in the case of Guaymas, which we have designated as the platform for the state’s economic relaunch. Historically, Guaymas has played a very important role in the national economy,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Marliz Bermúdez, Head of Investments for the Americas at APM Terminals, and Sergio Pérez, Principal of Investments for APM Terminals in the Americas, reaffirmed their commitment to sustainability and their interest in transforming the Port of Guaymas into a zero-emissions logistics hub, aligned with global emission reduction and clean energy transition goals.

As a result of this meeting, Governor Durazo and Maersk executives agreed to follow up on feasibility and investment studies.
