State Government meets with 30 Sonoran university students who will study for a year in Taiwan

State Government of Sonora, through the Council for Sustainable Development (Codeso), organized a university gathering with 30 students from various higher education institutions across the state, selected months ago for an academic and cultural exchange with three universities in Taiwan.

The activities, which included workshops and intensive courses, started on Wednesday and ended Friday, with the participation of prominent experts in English language teaching, finance, tourism, image, and psychology.

The 30 university students from Sonora received intensive training in preparation for their upcoming trip to Taiwan, where they will study for a year at three prestigious universities specializing in electromobility, automation, and semiconductors.

The students are from universities in Hermosillo, the Sierra, and other regions of the state.

In addition to academic training, various social activities were organized for the students to strengthen bonds among them, including group dynamics, excursions, and recreational events that encourage collaboration and teamwork.

The goal is to create a support network among the students so that during their stay in Taiwan, they feel supported and can share experiences and challenges.

During those three days of training, there was also a meeting with Governor Alfonso Durazo and a delegation of Taiwanese entrepreneurs who visited Sonora with the interest of investing in sectors such as manufacturing, electronics, and textiles.

The experts who participated in these three days of training were Olga González, psychologist and writer; Daniel Urías, international speaker and founder of Cooltura Financiera; Gisela Arriaga, sociologist and expert in public image; Francisco Hernández, CEO of Go English Hermosillo; Paola Valenzuela, tourism business administrator and influencer; and Diego Avilés, executive coordinator of Codeso.

Some of the topics discussed at the university meeting included leadership and effective communication for young Sonoran’s on their way to Taiwan, how to overcome challenges abroad, personal finances for university students, and skills for global success, among others.

These activities are part of the Sonora Plan aimed at developing local talent specialized in renewable energies.

Under the leadership of Governor Alfonso Durazo, the Plan has encouraged local universities to redesign their curricula to create programs related to semiconductors and lithium. Francisco Acuña, honorary president of the Council for Sustainable Development (CODESO), emphasized that these initial 30 young individuals undergoing training in Taiwan during the upcoming academic year are students from local universities, both public and private. It is anticipated that more Sonoran university students will pursue specialization opportunities abroad.
