Sonora Plan Positions the State in the National Top 5 for Energy Growth

The State of Sonora has solidified its position as the fifth leading State nationwide in terms of growth in the energy industry, a result of the development of the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan, that has taken the region to a leading position in the sector, Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño emphasized.

The Governor pointed out that, based on data from the Monthly Industrial Activity Indicator study by Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI), Sonora recorded an impressive 16.2 percent increase in its energy production as of june 2024, placing it among the top five states with the most dynamic
growth in the sector.

This initiative, driven by Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño, has been key in attracting investments in renewable energy projects, particularly solar energy, fully capitalizing on the State’s natural advantages. The plan has allowed Sonora to become a national reference in clean energy generation and in the
transition towards a sustainable energy model.

Energy Infrastructure Improvement Since the beginning of Governor Durazo’s administration, the State has significantly improved its energy infrastructure, supporting the creation of solar plants and promoting the use of natural gas. This growth has not only benefited the local economy but has also strengthened Sonora’s commitment to sustainability and combating climate change.

The Chief of Staff of the State highlighted that this progress in the energy sector is just the beginning of a more prosperous future for Sonora, where clean energy will play a key role in its economic and social development.
