This meeting highlights the importance of the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan as one of the most ambitious projects in sustainability and energy transition in Mexico, and reaffirms its key role in the binational relationship.

The panel, which brought together experts from both countries, addressed the achievements and expected impact of the energy interconnection between Sonora and Arizona for the production of renewable energy.

Notable participants included Diego Aviles, executive coordinator of the Council for Sustainable Development (Codeso); Paola Hidalgo, executive director of Mexico relations at Arizona State University; Manuel Quevedo Lopez, professor and department chair at the University of Texas; and Bruce Nail, professor emeritus of materials science and engineering.

During the event, panelists highlighted that the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan not only offers a transformative opportunity for the energy sector in Mexico and the United States, but also strengthens economic, technological and environmental relations between the two countries.

“With this plan, our entity becomes a strategic bridge between Sonora and Arizona, which strengthens the commercial relationship and promotes the economic development of the entire region,” they said.

The experts agreed on the importance of cross-border collaboration for the development of a sustainable energy infrastructure that will benefit the entire region.
