Governor Durazo continues the modernization of the Port of Guaymas with support from President Claudia Sheinbaum

To continue with strategic projects that are part of the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan, such as the modernization of the Port of Guaymas, Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño held a meeting with Admiral José Rafael Ojeda Durán, Secretary of the Navy, and Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, the next head of the Secretary of the Navy.

The modernization and expansion of the Port of Guaymas is intended to consolidate the region as a point of arrival and departure for deep-draft vessels that will enhance industrial development in northwestern Mexico and turn the state into a national reference point for world trade and tourism.

It should be noted that the Government of Sonora made arrangements for this project with the Administration of the National Port System of Guaymas (ASIPONA) and the Secretary of the Navy (SEMAR), which implies the implementation of a state-of-the-art port design, taking advantage of the strategic use of space.

Along with the Sonora Plan and the generation of clean energy, the Port of Guaymas has strategic infrastructure that connects it with countries in Asia and Europe, adding value to minerals linked to electromobility and semiconductors.

Between 2022 and 2024, 13 strategic projects were launched with a total investment of of three billion 494 million pesos, including the inauguration of the modernization of the Guaymas-Chihuahua highway, the rehabilitation of the multi-purpose dock, the cold storage warehouse, new railway tracks, the rehabilitation of the port’s storage yard, as well as the rehabilitation of Aquiles Serdán Avenue and the Plaza of the Three Presidents.
