Governor Alfonso Durazo Promotes the Sonora Plan at Gastech 2024 in Houston, Texas

The gas liquefaction plant being developed by Mexico Pacific in Puerto Libertad is emerging as one of the most iconic projects of the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan, positioning Sonora on the global stage as a hub for sustainable energy development. This was stated by Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño during his participation at the Gastech Exhibition & Conference 2024, held in Houston, Texas.

As part of promoting the Sonora Plan, the state leader met with Sarah Bairstow, CEO of Mexico Pacific, to present the project to representatives from companies in 120 countries involved in the Puerto Libertad liquefaction plant as suppliers, engineers, or designers.

“Today we are here to support Mexico Pacific and ensure the full collaboration of the Sonora State Government to facilitate their establishment and the success of their investment. I am convinced that projects will emerge from this visit that will benefit Sonora in the future”, he assured.

The natural gas liquefaction plant in Puerto Libertad, located in the municipality of Pitiquito, in northwestern Sonora, will be the largest energy investment in Mexico and will have a positive impact on economic development, education, and the creation of more than 30,000 jobs for Sonora’s people.

With an investment of $15 billion, the plant will have a production capacity of 14 million tons per year, with a future projection of 28.2 million tons annually.
