During a dialogue with Telemax, Francisco Acuña Méndez, executive president of the Council for Sustainable Development of the State of Sonora (CODESO), highlighted the consolidation of a new chapter of the United States Chamber of Commerce in Mexico (AMCHAM) in Hermosillo, the first this organization has established in the last 50 years. This new chapter covers the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Sinaloa and Chihuahua, consolidating the region as a strategic focus for investment in key sectors.
Acuña Méndez emphasized that this joint effort seeks to strengthen areas such as semiconductors, medical devices and clean energy, sectors promoted by the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan. According to Acuña, the collaboration and commercial exchange with the United States will boost Sonora as a first level industrial center, contributing to the advancement of sustainability and innovation in Mexico.
In this sense, he also mentioned that the Sonora-U.S. and Arizona-Mexico plenaries, held last friday in Hermosillo, marked the re-launching of the binational relationship after 65 years. The event brought together business and government leaders from both sides of the border with the objective of boosting emerging industries, reinforcing Sonora as a key player in the North American supply chain.
Lastly, CODESO’s executive president highlighted President Claudia Sheinbaum’s support for the development of the first Mexican electric car, Olinia, manufactured in Sonora.
“With the support of our president, we are demonstrating Mexico’s commitment to sustainability in the automotive sector,” concluded Acuña Méndez, emphasizing that this collaboration between the public and private sector will allow Sonora to lead in the clean technology industry.
