With an investment of 1.52 billion pesos allocated to three 20-kilometer sections, the modernization of the Guaymas-Chihuahua highway is progressing, facilitating transit for commercial exchange and economic development, Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño reported.

The state governor mentioned that, as part of the components of the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan, the Guaymas-Chihuahua highway will expedite trade from Chihuahua and attract more investments to the Port of Guaymas as an export route to Asian countries.

“It is part of the Sonora Plan, the construction of infrastructure that will allow us to bring clients to the Port of Guaymas because all the cargo from Chihuahua will come via this highway to the Port of Guaymas for economic reasons. When the port is operational, ideally, vehicles manufactured in Sonora will be shipped from there and won’t have to be transported by land to Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán. This represents a very high logistical cost. The same will happen with all types of production from Chihuahua that are exported to Asian countries,” he indicated.

Governor Durazo Montaño mentioned that the modernization of the Guaymas-Chihuahua highway is still in progress, and similar to President López Obrador’s administration, President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has taken ownership of it to give continuity, which will drive the port as a hub of economic development for the benefit of the people of Sonora.
