With the aim of strengthening collaboration and exploring investment opportunities, a delegation of 16 entrepreneurs, executives, and representatives from Taiwan visited Sonora from June 6 to 8.
The visit, headed by representatives from Hsinchu Science Park and the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), along with 11 companies from the electrical-electronic, textile, plastic product manufacturing, and industrial equipment sectors, signifies a milestone in the relations between Sonora and Taiwan.
This meeting is the result of Governor Alfonso Durazo’s visit, and the Memorandum of Understanding signed with ITRI College in September 2023.
During their visit, the Taiwanese delegation experienced firsthand the competitive advantages that Sonora offers in terms of electromobility and renewable energy generation, key elements of the Sonora Plan.

The governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo Montaño, with the honorary president of the Council for Sustainable Development (CODESO), Francisco Acuña Méndez, presented the investment opportunities and strategic advantages of Sonora to the visitors.
“Our state is consolidating itself as an attractive destination for investment and well-being, thanks to its strategic location and the robust economic growth we are experiencing,” highlighted Acuña Méndez.

Last year, Sonora was one of the leading states in attracting foreign direct investment in the Northern border region, with a total of $2.711 billion USD, positioning itself as the second state in Mexico in terms of foreign direct investment reception.

During the three-day visit, the Taiwanese delegation toured industrial parks, companies such as Ford, Leoni, and Magna, and the Port of Guaymas, where they learned about the ongoing projects to make it the most important port on the Mexican Pacific coast.
The Taiwanese delegation, composed of presidents, CEOs, managers, and consultants from global companies, expressed their interest in the business opportunities offered by the Sonora Plan and the possibility of establishing long-term collaborations in the state.
