Francisco Acuña Highlights the Impact of the Sonora Plan on Development with Human Security at Regional Forum

During his participation in the Regional Forum for the integration of the National Development Plan 2025-2030, Francisco Acuña Méndez, Executive President of the Sonora Council for Sustainable Development (CODESO), emphasized how the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan has promoted economic development alongside comprehensive well-being in education, health, public safety, mobility, and the environment.

“With political will, an active role from the state, and a replicable industrial policy, we have demonstrated that economic development can go hand in hand with community well-being. The Sonora Plan not only creates jobs and economic growth but also ensures shared prosperity and human security,” stated Acuña Méndez.

Speaking as a panelist at the Forum organized to shape the National Development Plan 2025-2030, Acuña Méndez highlighted that under the leadership of Governor Alfonso Durazo, the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan was launched, becoming a reference model for fostering development with human security in the state.

He stressed that the Sonora Plan has positioned the state as a hub for clean energy generation, better connected to major markets, and with the development of human talent capable of addressing future challenges.

Acuña Méndez proposed integrating the Sonora Plan’s strategies into the “Sovereign Republic and Sustainable Energy” section of the National Development Plan, highlighting that Sonora’s model aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda.

“Sonora is an example of how a state-led policy can become a catalyst for change. This approach not only achieves local goals but also contributes to sustainable development at the national and international levels,” he concluded.

The Regional Forum brought together state and federal officials, reaffirming the Government of Sonora’s commitment to building a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable Mexico.
