Following the implementation of the Sonora Plan, the state has established itself as one of the country’s main energy powerhouses, with a 9.3 percent increase in the generation, transmission, distribution, and commercialization of electricity through December 2024, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), stated Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño.
The state leader emphasized that Sonora ranks fifth nationally in clean energy generation for electricity production, reflecting the positive impact of the state plan promoting the use of renewable energy sources for energy supply.
“Our commitment to Mexico’s energy future is strong. Sonora has the potential, location, and leadership to be at the forefront of clean energy,” affirmed the governor.
According to INEGI’s Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity, Sonora stood out in its contribution to national energy production in December 2024, ranking just behind Guanajuato, Colima, Chiapas, and Querétaro.
Governor Durazo has pointed out that these advances are the result of a comprehensive strategy to turn Sonora into a benchmark for energy sustainability, through investments in photovoltaic and thermoelectric plants, as well as close collaboration with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and the private sector.
The Sonora Plan continues to position the state as a leader in Mexico’s energy transformation, with a clear vision toward sustainability and self-sufficiency.
