Sonora is positioned among the top 10 most competitive states in the country, according to the results of the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO), demonstrating the effectiveness of initiatives such as the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan. This plan, promoted by Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño, aims to strengthen regional development through better employment opportunities and the attraction of new foreign investments in the energy sector.
The governor highlighted that, in the 2025 State Competitiveness Index, Sonora ranks 9th nationwide, standing out in areas such as efficient and transparent governance, infrastructure and connectivity, innovation and economic sophistication, and environmental performance.
“This achievement, which places our state at the national forefront, reflects our administration’s commitment to positioning Sonora as a leader in competitiveness, which will attract investments and create more and better jobs,” the governor stated.
It is worth noting that around efficient and transparent governance, Sonora ranks first in state-level anti-corruption mechanisms and compliance with the General Transparency Law. In the infrastructure and connectivity category, the state is among the top performers in rural internet access and road quality.
