The leadership of Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño in promoting Sonora’s economic potential and attracting increased foreign investment has resulted in the creation of better jobs and the lowest unemployment rate in 18 years, with a figure of 2.57 percent.
According to the Encuesta Nacional de Ocupación y Empleo (ENOE) released by the Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI), Sonora continues to show a trend of growth in better-paid jobs and an increase in positions under formal employment schemes. This has positioned the state as the seventh lowest in the country for labor informality.
The study shows that the rate of partial employment is at 7.70 percent, a level not seen since 2007. This indicator reflects that the state has created better labor conditions and higher-quality jobs, as it reduced the number of people working less than 15 hours per week, which previously limited their income and underutilized their labor capacity.
For the first quarter of 2025, the general labor pressure rate stood at 5.82 percent, a level not recorded since 2008, indicating greater satisfaction with current jobs and income levels.
Regarding the underemployment rate, which measures how many employed individuals feel the need to work more hours due to insufficient income, this figure dropped to 4.18 percent in the first quarter of 2025, a level not seen since 2008. This decline is a result of improvements in workers’ earnings.
