Governor Durazo and President Sheinbaum strengthen ties with Foxconn for plant installation in Sonora

With the aim of bolstering national economic development and securing new investments for the state, driven by the Sonora Plan, Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño held meetings in Mexico City with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and executives from the Taiwanese company Foxconn. He described these meetings as positive, highlighting the significance of presidential support in attracting major companies to the state.

The state governor emphasized that, during the meeting, the formation of a working group was confirmed. This group will include representatives from the Ministry of Energy, the Government of Sonora, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), and Taiwanese business leaders. Its purpose is to advance strategic projects, including the potential installation of an electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Sonora, led by tech giant Foxconn.

“We held a meeting with a group of Taiwanese business people and our president, who see our state of Sonora as an important option for establishing their investments. We have already created a working group, headed by the Secretary of Energy (Luz Elena González Escobar), which will follow up on the realization of this opportunity to establish a plant here in Sonora related to electric vehicle manufacturing,” he stated.

Governor Durazo Montaño emphasized that this visit is a direct result of his administration’s efforts in Asia, where it has promoted the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan as an ideal platform for investment in key sectors such as electromobility and semiconductors.

He reiterated that the Sonora Plan is emerging as one of the fundamental pillars for attracting green investments, creating jobs, strengthening energy infrastructure, and positioning Sonora as a regional leader in innovation and sustainability.
